The Susan Boyle Phenomenon

By now we expect that gentle readers have heard the extraordinary performance of Susan Boyle from Britain's Got Talent. For those who have not, one of several YouTube videos is available here (we'd embed, but embedding has been stopped on this one, just another measure of the video's popularity).

Boyle's story is full of the elements that make it a near parable. We like the way that Susan Douglas Home has laid out many of those elements in her column for the Herald, not least the way she notes that Ms. Boyle's talent is less significant than her character.

She reminds me of Angela Lansburry mixed with Mike Myers playing a Scottish mother in So I Married an Axe Murderer.
