Jeff Jacoby, the token conservative at the Boston Globe (motto: "We are to the New York Times what the Red Sox are to the Yankees, except that the Times owns us"), posts an excellent piece on ID that pretty much nails the whole matter. SWNID thanks Mr. Jacoby for reminding a national audience that ID is not creationism and it's not something new and the real problem is not that people disagree with Darwinism but that Darwinists don't want dissent.
But SWNID wishes that Jacoby had been more precise in his closing remark: "That isn't primitivism or Bible-thumping or flying spaghetti. It's science." We believe that the distinction between science, which by nature of its method excludes consideration of God, and the meta-scientific question as to whether the existence of such a universe as ours makes a God reasonable, is important. ID isn't science, but it's scientific.
