New Megabus Review
For those who aren't already converted to the Gospel of the Megabus, we offer a recent review by a St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Tom Uhlenbrock. Bottom line: Megabus is cheap and pleasant.
I've never paid much attention to your comments on the Megabus since I don't live in the Midwest and never find myself needing a cheap way to travel from Cincy to Chicago.
However, the other day I saw a Megabus advertisement in the subway. I checked out the website and was pleasantly surprised by the breadth of the operation.
Turns out I can go from NYC to several points on the eastern seaboard, and the majority of date/city comibinations I looked into were available for the unbelievable fare of $1. In fact, there were even a couple of fares to Toronto for a buck (although most were admittedly more expensive... but still, $40 to a different country is still quite a steal).
I can't wait to visit friends down in Baltimore and DC this summer, with a grand total of $2 in travel costs. Now I see what you've been enthusiastically yapping about this whole time!
ps- by the way, I would really like to check out the Post-Dispatch article you referenced, but the link provided is actually to the CT article mentioned in the previous post.
EVEN THOUGH you get two confirmation numbers... 81/82####, they CANNOT change one reservation without the other. So, if you buy two tickets and one of you can't make it last minute... you are SCREWED. You can change both or just suck it up and pay double.
Stay away from Megabus. Beware!! They do not pick you from the bus stop, they do not give you any information/updates, they do not listen your complaints/issues, their customer care personnel are expert in disconnecting your calls or transferring your calls here and there and they do not reply to your emails too. I had booked three mega bus tickets through www.Megabus.com with confidence to get one of the best bus services in the US as I was traveling with my spouse and kid. The bus never showed up at airport on the date and time (mid night). We were there at airport for 2 hrs. After trying for 15-20 minutes at mid night to contact Mega bus customer service, I came to know that a white bus had come there and left. That bus was not from the Mega bus fleet and did not have any indication of Mega bus. Driver did not ask any passengers waiting at airport to board the bus or let them know that that was the Mega bus. Also, the bus stopped at Buffalo airport for just 2 minutes and drove away ignoring all the passengers waiting at airport for Mega bus. The bus driver was busy talking to someone over the phone throughout and left soon after. No one from Mega bus was there at the airport or at customer service to help us or tell us what to do next. Because of this negligence and carelessness, I suffered a lot of mental and physical problems as it was raining on that night and I was traveling with a kid. I finally decided to stay at hotel and book three airline Tickets. I spent around $450 for all of these things. Again the next day I tried to contact Mega bus customer service and they kept transferring the call to different people. Since then I have tried to contact Mega Bus Customer service 5-6 times but have not received a proper reply yet. I have also sent 3-4 emails to inquiries@megabus.com , support@megabus.com and through Mega bus website but again have not received any reply. I have left 2-3 voice messages for Mega Bus Customer Care Supervisor as well, but he/she has not returned my calls yet. Above examples show that Mega bus is not interested in solving customer’s problems which are in fact their creation.

Sorry about the sloppy link. Our crack staff of editors just corrected the error.
Megabus announced service in NYC a couple of months ago or so. Meanwhile, it sounds like they're folding in CA.
But for now, Megabus is going head-to-head with the Chinatown buses. Three cheers for competition!
BE AWARE:

Megabus is not for the disorganized. Of course, that just endears it to us all the more.
