A Blessing from Tony Snow

Amidst the media and public mourning at the passing of commentator and former Bush press secretary Tony Snow, we offer the reminder that Snow was a very fine writer and a very thoughtful Christian. Not long ago he wrote a piece about what his cancer has meant to him, "Cancer's Unexpected Blessings," for Christianity Today. Those who read it at the time should read it again, as it becomes all the more poignant now that Snow is gone from us. Those who didn't read it the first time should.

A pemmican quotation, worthy of Lewis had he experienced four-wheel drive:

We want lives of simple, predictable ease—smooth, even trails as far as the eye can see--but God likes to go off-road.
