Westboro to Picket NACC: SWNID Advises Conventioneers

The extended-family/publicity-stunt/mind-control-cult known as Westboro Baptist Church will be in Cincinnati on July 7 to picket the North American Christian Convention.

This will cause conventioneers much dismay. Some will attempt to argue. Others will attempt to break through with Random Acts of Kindness.

We recommend a third alternative. Really, we'd like to insist, but we might as well just recommend.

It's what we've recommended before:

Ignore them.

Don't argue. They like that, and they don't listen.

Don't do the kindness thing. It's still attention, which is what these folk crave.

Just ignore them. Really. It won't give you much heroic stature, but it will do less to fuel the Westboro fire than any alternative that presents itself.

It's kind of an honor, really.

When narcissist Fraud Foolps and the Best-Borrow Bad-Test Chumps pay you attention and you feel honored, you have self-esteem issues.

When you feel annoyed, you are on the road of truth.

When you are indifferent, you have learned the secret of contentment.

But what if I can't help it???

I'd like to suggest a fourth option: Comically over-react with apologizing and repenting. They've had people ignore them, they've had people be kind to them, they've had people blockade them, they've had people yell at them, but have they ever had somebody agree with them? (Even if it is in mocking.)

I'm content

Of course I have self esteem issues. It's why I entered the ministry.

Technically, _I'm_ not honored since I won't be there. I just assumed _you'd_ be honored.

We used "you" in the informal, indefinite sense of "one."

And it's not a sign of narcissism that anyone might think that such a "you" was aimed at that person personally. At least not necessarily.
