More on No Church at Christmas

Well, gentle readers, we certainly know where your passions lie. SWNID has experienced more comments on the megachurch move away from services on Christmas Sunday than anything in SWNID history.

Of course, since the NY Times covered this story, now everyone is covering it. CNN's contribution is noteworthy in the SWNID household because Cindy Willison, friend of SWNID and Mrs. SWNID, is quoted as "a spokeswoman for the evangelical Southland Christian Church."
We draw attention to two features of our dear friend's response.

First, it highlights what commentator "Raymond" has noted, namely, that the volunteer-intensive church faces a distinct challenge when Christmas falls on Sunday.

Second, we predict that our friend Ms. Willison will be pilloried for offering the justification that worship can take place anywhere, not just in a church building. Not that this isn't manifestly true, of course, but since the same justification is offered lamely by so many who avoid church services every Sunday, it will prompt those inclined to make such criticisms to insist that the office of "spokeswoman" should not exist in the church.

Hmmm...."Spokeswoman for the church". This might prompt some interesting discussion. Is there any scriptural precedent for such a position? Perhaps Priscilla or Lydia? I wonder how Paul would respond to the thought given his comments about women keeping silent and all.

while she may have been noted as a "spokeswoman for the church" in the article it should be noted that she is a ministry assistant for student ministries. She is not the official spokeswoman of Southland, this is a young lady that I turn in my application for financial aid to go to school, not to take anything away from her, she is a very nice lady. By no means is she the voice of Southland, it is more likely that she was picked or asked to be interviewed, again I note the link to the sermon by Jon Weece, who is the spokesperson of the church, in the previous blog on the topic

I apologize for the previous post, I was thinking of Sarah Willison her daughter, Cindy is also on staff as the director of ministry services, but still by no means would I consider her the spokeswoman of the church unless I were directly told so by the senior minister. Again I apologize for the confusion on my part.
