The Jerusalem Post reports that a professor of engineering at Virginia Tech, Liviu Librescu, threw himself in front of Cho Seung-Hui as he attempted to enter Librescu's classroom. Librescu was killed, but the students in his class survived because he effectively blocked the doorway, allowing them time to jump out of windows.
The great irony--or perhaps the great explanation--of this is that Librescu was a Holocaust survivor. And yesterday was Holocaust Remembrance Day.
