In the selection and delivery of sermon illustrations, the preacher must never portray himself as the hero of the story or leave any denigrating impression of those closest to the preacher. Here's an interesting take on the issue:

An even bigger bit of advice is never use your girlfriend in an illustration if you're married (It'll be a LONG time before I live that down).
