A personal relationship with God

The incomparable Mark Noll, historian extraordinaire at Wheaton College, has a significant posting at OpinionJournal.com, the free side of the Wall Street Journal online. It briefly reviews and responds to the latest hot item in Christian publishing, a little book called Dinner with a Perfect Stranger.

Check out Noll's piece to get a picture of what the book's about (hint: "perfect" in the book's title is a play on words), if, like me, you hadn't heard of it before. But check it out especially for a keen historical synopsis of the idea of a "personal relationship with God" in American evangelical Christian discourse.
