Old St. George Suffers Fire in Spires

We alert our global readership of former Cincinnatians that the spires of the historic Old St. George church building burned last night. Recently a center for eclectic community and religious activities and more recently closed, the building on the National Historic Register, increasingly a white elephant, now may be doomed to destruction.

We hold many fond memories of OSJ, where we attended theatrical performances, weddings, receptions and other events and where members of our own circle of friends sometimes resided. Like other local landmarks important in our personal experience (the original Skyline Chili location, CCU's Old Main, Grammer's Restaurant, Riverfront Stadium, WNOP), it may now slip into nothing except such memories.

This makes me quite distraught. I would hate to see Old St. George's go quietly into the night.

hasn't UC (Under Construction or University of Cincinnati) been gunning for that property for some time?

That's too bad. I have some really great memories of that place. Definately the most interesting place I've ever lived or worked.
