Pre-Emptive Strike Against Gentle Readers

Yes, gentle readers, we know that you all think that SWNID should read and take to heart today's "Pearls Before Swine" (acknowledged as Best New Comic Strip in the SWNID Superlatives of 2005).

Well, we beat you to it.

Really? Best comic strip? You disappoint me.

They've only got one joke, and they beat it to death. The strip hasn't been funny in years.

Try putting these in your RSS feed.

Better:

Best:

Browse half a dozen xkcd pages. If you don't laugh out loud at least once, turn in your nerd card.

Best new strip in 2005. Some years are not good years: remember when Titanic won best picture?

The voters were all members of the fairer sex.

Pearls could be good again if he'd give up the croc storylines. They're just embarrassingly bad.

We love the crocs, whose single-minded pursuit of the zebras reminds us of Charlie Brown's quest to Kick the Football.

As to your recommendations, which we have now perused, having seen underground comics since the 1960s, we affirm again that the newspaper syndicators are decent at guessing which cartoonists have the talent to sustain a daily strip.

1. The Brick Testament, using the same medium, is funnier than Irregular Webcomic.

2. Qwanz is not a comic. It's a postmodern diatribe with pointless drawings of dinosaurs. Comics are supposed to get their humor from the drawings and not flail about with massive text in hopes that something sparks a giggle.

3. xkcd is impenetrable. If I'm in the mood for Heidegger, I'll read Heidegger.

Finally, if our tastes in comics are similar to those of the fairer sex, that would give us one and only one characteristic that chicks dig, which for us is something to celebrate.
