As nearly predicted previously on this blog, The Da Vinci Code appears to be a turkey. Word from a screening at Cannes is that critics could barely contain laughter at the unintentional humor, while many walked out of the 150-minute slog through endless plot exposition.
The SWNIDs have an upcoming date with friends with whom we constitute a "movie club" to see the DVC. Perhaps we can change plans and rent Cinderella Man instead.

driving past SWNID's church yesterday, i notice the minister is beginning a Da Vinci Code series.
unable to turn him from the dark side?
Is it any surprise that a poorly written book developed into an ill-conceived movie? Very rarely does one find a novel which has translated well into film and I suppose DVC is no exception to the general rule.
Actually, I'd make the generalization that great books are seldom made into great movies, but great movies often are based on forgettable books.
I'll venture that the problem with DVC is the lack of a significant visual component to the story, i.e. action that translates well to the screen. Add to that some shallow characterization, and you have a pretty boring affair.
And Rustypants, for the record WOCC's minister is against the DVC.
Peter Travers, my second favorite critic, gave the film one star. Can't wait for the new X-Men movie, though.
