For Those Who Don't Already, Good Day to Start Reading Taranto

James Taranto's not-quite-a-blog has been a SWNID must-read since the beginning of SWNID. Today's offering is especially tasty:

  • Taranto documents extensive opacity and duplicity in the reporting of the NSA's domestic telephone database as "surveillance" and "eavesdropping."
  • He has a link to an amazing video clip from the Beeb in which a fellow who had gone to the BBC's offices for a job interview was instead ushered into a TV studio as an expert talking head.

We'll treasure the former as an example of how by its sheer sloppiness the fourth estate has become a fifth column, and the latter as an example to students of always being prepared to give an answer about anything.

At the urging of SWNID himself, I post the following news item.

Dick Cheney entered the Oval Office Monday and said, "Mr. President, I have some disturbing news." "What is it, Dick?" the President replied. "I've been told that three Brazilian soldiers were gunned down in Iraq today." At that point, the President broke down in tears. After some time, he looked up at Cheney and said, "How many is three brazilian?"
