On Schedule, Reds In Toilet Before Memorial Day

It was too good to be true.

Our beloved Cincinnati Reds are, as we blog, trailing the hapless Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 in the bottom of the second.

They are on their way to their sixth consecutive loss, and the third in a row to the AAA Pirates.

They're moving out of serious contention before the weather gets warm.

With 24 wrapping up this Monday and the Reds fighting for fourth place, it will be another slow summer.

Until June 9th and the start of the World Cup you mean...

Ah, but it is the Pirates, so you spoke too soon. They're now ahead by two in the seventh.

But I am waiting for the wheels to come off.

Yea of little faith (excusable though cosidering the circumstances).

Final score Reds 9, Pirates 8. I am sure the home town heroes would thank you for the encouragement.

Wow. Do you see that object in the rear view mirror? That's the Red's Bandwagon. You not only climbed off of it, you hopped into your sensible Academic Dean sedan (or minivan) and started zooming down the road away from it.

Will they struggle this year? Yes. A ship that has been on the wrong course with the wrong captain (or no captain) for this long can't be righted in one season.

But is this the same 'ole Reds? No, and to believe otherwise is frankly to demonstrate that you haven't been paying attention to the ways in which the culture of the organization has already begun to change.

I've been told that the Cubs' culture has changed, too. We Cubs fans are real excited about that as we near the end of our 100 year rebuilding program.

Our alternative motto to SWNID is "Expect the least and you're never disappointed." We will gripe all the way to the World Series, if possible.

Update: the Reds are now four games behind the St. Louis Cardinals (motto: "Winning more games longer than anyone except the Yankees, and if we had their money . . .").
